20th JUNE 2020 Update for Members
Firstly, allow us to apologise for the delay in releasing information to our members. We have always felt it imperative to gather as much information as possible which would then enable us to give the right decisions for everyone involved in the GPA. Plans were put in place for all scenarios along with a decision to wait for bars to reopen. This allowed us to fully ascertain in what capacity this would happen and how things would affect us all going forward. It has always been our intention to complete as much of the season as possible with the resources available to us.
League
This was our biggest issue. Now, with bars open and pool tables available we intend to complete the league. We would like this to commence as of Thursday 16th July (We all need a bit of practice, right?). We would strongly suggest all captains speak with their home venue regarding availability of pool tables. Due to the current ongoing covid19 restrictions, we will be lifting the requirement of the home team to provide refreshments between the singles and doubles for the remainder of the season.
If any captain encounters issues with their venue, please contact a committee member immediately and we will do all we can to make other arrangements for you.
Singles and Doubles
As to not put too much pressure on bars working with limited capacity etc, we propose to complete these events using the GPA academy for most matches. A proposed date for 30th June has been earmarked for matches to be scheduled and continue with these events. Players will be informed beforehand with times of matches etc.
Cup and Plate
Semi and Final Matches will be at the end of the League. This will allow us to complete all events. Once again, teams will be advised of dates prior to matches.
Finals and Presentation Night
With the current restrictions in place these events are being constantly reviewed in line with the GOG guidelines. As things develop with 'unlock the rock' we will keep you informed with the planning of these events.
AGM
Once again this is being constantly reviewed in line with GOG guidelines. Hopefully, we will be in a position to hold the event as normal by the proposed date.
Academy
As of Monday 22nd June, all 5 tables will be available for use by members with a capacity of 12 players allowed in the Academy. The bookings system currently in place will now cease BUT full name etc. will be registered with keyholder due to the GOG requirements for us to record details of all players using the facility. Prices for practice will also go back to the original amount from the 22nd.
International Qualifiers
The remainder of the qualifiers scheduled for 2020 will be cancelled and the qualified players from 2019 given the opportunity to represent Gibraltar in 2021. Entry fees from the qualifiers already played this year will be refunded to the relevant players. There is the remote possibility of an event to attend later this year in Ireland. Should the event go ahead it will require funding entirely by the players wishing to attend. At this time, we are still trying to access refunds from Airlines for monies paid towards the cancelled event in Bridlington. The situation has been sorted with hotel deposits, Coach deposits etc, but the airlines continue to be an issue. We will keep you all informed of any progress made as and when it occurs.
